Here's Why You Should Purchase a 3 Ton Package Heat Pump
Owning a home is expensive, from bills to repairs, to the mortgage—it all adds up. As a homeowner, you need to make a lot of decisions regarding the setup and layout of your home, and these have an impact on the amount you’ll spend on heating, on air conditioning, on water and electricity. Considering that heating and cooling account for almost half of your home’s energy use, you want the most efficient HVAC appliances you can find. The easiest way to reduce your energy consumption is to buy a heat pump. Many of us have heard of heat pumps, but we assume, given the name “heat pump,” that all they can do is provide heat. That’s dead wrong. The truth is a 3 ton package heat pump unit is an excellent choice of appliance that can both heat and cool your home.
Depending on the family, a heat pump can save you up to 50% of your heating costs. For every dollar of electricity that you put into a heat pump, you can get back up to $4 worth of heat. And, as an added bonus, the heat pump works as an air conditioner in the summer.
How does this work?
Instead of making heat, a heat pump extracts it from the outdoors. Similar to a refrigerator, a heat pump evaporates refrigerant (a compound that absorbs heat from the air), then condenses the refrigerant at high pressure to release the absorbed heat. When acting as a furnace, the absorbed heat is released into the home’s interior. When acting as an air conditioner, the head is released into the exterior.
There are many factors to consider when choosing your heating pump.
The first factor is the ducts.
Ductless heating pumps don’t require much construction. Only a three-inch hole is needed to conduct the outdoor condenser through the wall to the indoor heads. Ductless systems are usually installed in home additions. If your home already has a ventilation system, you may want to consider a ducted heat pump. This heat pump works through the ductwork already built into your home. Finally, there are short-run ducted heat pumps. These run through only a small section of the house and are generally used to supplement a separate, ductless heating unit.
The second factor to consider is the coils.
Most heat pumps are split systems. They place one coil on the outside, and one on the inside, letting these two coils work together to produce heating and cooling. Supply and return ducts run to an indoor central fan, which pushes the air toward its destination. A split-system unit provides a great amount of control. And, with control comes efficiency. The control panels can be stored indoors, which protects them from the elements. They tend to be fairly quiet.
The other type of heat pump is a package system. Here, both the coils and the fan are located outdoors, and air is delivered to the interior by ductwork. The advantages of a package unit include its been manufactured and assembled in a factory, a controlled environment, which minimizes the chances of the unit being damaged. Since the motors and refrigerants are added during assembly, the unit operates to a high degree of efficiency. It is also an easier instal, being only one element. The only other thing you’ll need is ductwork.
The third factor to consider is the number of zones.
A single zone heat pump is a unit with a single indoor head, and a single outdoor head. Usually, homeowners will chain together multiple single-zone heat pumps to heat every floor of their home. The advantage of this is that, in the end, it is more efficient, albeit more expensive. You get to choose the kind of heating pump that works best for each “zone” of your residence. Multi-zone installations, in contrast, connect two or more indoor heads to one outdoor condenser. Similarly to the single-zone heat pump, multi-zone indoor heads may vary in size and style to give each “zone” of your house its own tailored treatment. Multi-zone installations tend to be cheaper, overall, than single-zone installations, And they tend to be a little more pleasing on the eye.
