Though they might look basically the same, supply and return grills are used for different purposes: a supply grill feeds either heated or cooled air into a room from the output of a heating or air conditioning system, whereas return grills collect air from the room to be heated or cooled before feeding it to the system through return air duct systems and recirculating it. Both of them are staples of a HVAC system, without which the system would be inoperable.
